PeopleNepal Earthquake had huge impacts on people including particular emotional impacts. There were impacts on people, cultural, economic and environmental impacts which will have huge impacts for everyone living there for many years to come.
People were affected emotionally because many of the people
round them died or were injured. The earthquake killed around 8,635 and 300
people were still missing on the 23rd of May 2015. 89 of the missing
people were foreigners. Most of the people who survived the earthquake would
have been devastated by the number of deaths and most (if not all) of them
probably knowing at least one person who died whether it was a family member or
a friend.
This earthquake has pulled families apart and the aftershocks scared people so much that they are not brave enough to go back to their homes even to find friends and family. Not only were there were so many deaths but more than double the number of injuries. 21 845 people are believed to have been injured. People are still on food rations as there is not enough food in Kathmandu to feed the people now living there since the surrounding villages were destroyed. When the crisis was at its worst, an estimated 3 million people were in need of food assistance and 1.4 million of them had to be prioritised. Approximately 1,600,786 houses were destroyed with the worst hit districts having between 80 and 90% of the houses lost. This means that these people will have nowhere to live for a while. People in Nepal will be living homeless until their houses are rebuilt, which will mean people sleeping indefinitely in tents and under tarpaulins provided by aid workers. Many families will now be in financial debt as they are not able to work because of the disaster. No income will be coming in for most families as many businesses have either literally collapsed during the earthquake, or are now unable to operate as a result of it. If a business has any income coming in a lot of it will need to be used to rebuild buildings. Even school teachers will have problems working as 1,383 schools have been destroyed leaving the teachers without anywhere to teach. People’s lives will change forever as a result of this disaster. Entire villages and access roads will need to be rebuilt. Children are not able to go to school, the money that they get needs to be used on food and to build places for them to live and sleep. People will feel like their whole is starting from scratch again. |
